Nicole H. Scalessa is Chief Information Officer at The Library Company of Philadelphia where she has been employed since July 1997. In her role as CIO, she maintains organization effectiveness, efficiency, preservation, and security of all information technologies and digital assets  while managing digital humanities endeavors and implementing strategic plans for technology and institutional policy. Nicole has a BA in History, Certificate in Digital Media for Print and Web from Moore College of Art and Design, and an MBA in IT Management.

She represents the Library Company on multiple committees for the National Digital Stewardship Association (NDSA), serves on the board of the Philadelphia Area Consortium of Special Collections Libraries, and is a Digital Public Library of America community representative. In addition she is a member of the Delaware Valley Archivists Group, the Mid-Atlantic Regional Archives Conference (MARAC), the Philadelphia Digital Managers Working Group, Philly Digital Humanities Meetup, and is co-founder of the Philadelphia Regional Islandora Users Group. She has been the Communications Director for Historians Against Slavery since 2011 and was elected the Vice President of the Center for Knit and Crochet in 2016 following two years as Secretary. Nicole also has intimate knowledge of and promotes the Library Company’s celebrated collection of needlework print culture. She is the author of Historic Reflections in Crochet (Library Company of Philadelphia: 2001) and the curator of the 2001 exhibition “The Hook and The Book: The Emergence of Crochet and Knitting in Early American Culture, 1840-1876.” More recently she has contributed to PieceWork Magazine (Interweave Press) and Donna Kooler’s Encyclopedia of Sewing. She is originally from Mountainville, New York in the Hudson Valley, along with over six generations of her family who founded the town in the eighteenth-century as Ketcham Town. The Ketcham "Family Store" was featured in her 2011 article in Piecework Magazine. She now lives in Delaware County PA with her husband, daughter, and son.
